The First Year
Homeopathy for Babies and Children
Babies and children like taking Homeopathic medicine as we are told by our young patient’s “It tastes great!” The natural substances from which homeopathic remedies are prepared mean that they are ideal to use with the very young, including newborn babies. Homeopathy may help support illness throughout childhood & through developmental periods of their life.
What is homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a system of medicine that has been practised all over the world for almost 250 years. Homeopathic remedies are made predominately from plants, minerals and salts . Homeopathic Medicine helps the body heal itself by stimulating the body’s own innate healing abilities.
A Homeopathic prescription is based on individual presentation of symptoms at physical emotional & mental level & based on the principal of “Like Curing like” – An example is where the remedy Allium Cepa (onion) is prescribed for symptoms of stinging & hot eyes, which is similar to what happens when you cut up an onion!
What first aid conditions may be treated at home?
Homeopathic Medicine often works well with children – Acute conditions may be resolved rapidly using correctly prescribed remedies. Babies often respond quickly to homeopathic treatment especially with teething pain, allergies and skin rashes. Homeopathy works well alongside conventional medicine.
When to consult a professional Homeopath & or your regular GP/ healthcare professional
If you are concerned about your child’s health always seek professional medical attention. Complaints which need professional treatment include, high fevers, unusual rashes, recurrent vomiting, sleep problems, digestive trouble, pain, recurrent infections, respiratory and skin complaints,.
What will my doctor think?
GPs increasingly welcome the contribution complementary therapies can make. In recent years, GPs have been discouraged from overprescribing medicines such as antibiotics for general colds and coughs. Homeopathic practitioners often work alongside other specialists in the health field.
