What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a system of medicine which treats the “Individual” as well as the disease symptoms. Homeopathy works with the principle of "cure by Similars, " i.e. substances that can cause symptoms in a healthy person are used to cure similar symptoms in someone who is ill.
Homeopathy was developed by a German physician named Samuel Hahnemann in the early 1800s. It is recorded that Homeopathic medicine provided great support & aided recovery during the cholera epidemic of 1832. Today, extensive clinical experience, observation and research continue to support Homeopathy’s effectiveness in both acute & chronic disease.
Homeopathy is precise
A conventional doctor usually focuses on a limited range of symptoms. The homeopath observes and considers the patients physical, mental and emotional state; for disease reveals a disharmony of the whole person. The initial consultation may therefore take up to 1 ½ hours. The homeopathic treatment is fine-tuned until the prescription matches the patient's idiosyncratic symptoms and constitutional make-up. There are no routine prescriptions in Classical homeopathy. For example two children have respiratory distress.:
One child is a chubby, complacent, sensitive boy with a tendency to sweat a lot. His respiratory attacks occur mostly in the fall and winter. Another boy with respiratory issues is energetic, talkative and likes to pick fights. His respiratory distress occurs mostly at night. These two children, though both with the same condition, need two different homeopathic remedies.
Classical homeopaths use a single remedy at any one time and wait a minimum of four to six weeks to re-prescribe. No invasive methods or machines are used in homeopathic treatment.Homeopathic treatment is long-lasting
The aim of homeopathic treatment is to provide symptom relief & a greater sense of well-being & vitality. Patients who receive homeopathic care usually experience enduring relief from their disorders and a higher level of health and well-being. Homeopathic treatment addresses the underlying conditions of disease symptoms & the individual is often able to enjoy life more fully. Homeopathy may also enhance palliative care.
Who can benefit from homeopathy?
Individuals who have to live a restricted lifestyle because of allergic reactions and multiple sensitivities. Homeopathic treatment strengthens the immune system, so that the person can lead a life with fewer restrictions and enjoy a greater range of foods and environments.
Individuals who suffer from emotional and mental disorders; e.g., disruptive behaviour disorders, learning and memory disorders, anxiety disorders, phobia & eating disorders.
Individuals who suffer from symptoms that are unresponsive to other treatments and medication; e.g., facial tics, restless legs, non-specific dizziness & on-going.ringing in the ears. Homeopathy may support disorders affecting many systems of the body.
Individuals who are experiencing unwanted side-effects and who seek symptom relief. Homeopathy may work well alongside conventional medicine and may help to reducedependancy on pharmaceutical drugs. Reduction in any conventional drug doses is always the responsibility of the patient to liaise with their MD/GP.
